Temozolomide & Treatment of Brain Metastases

Use of Temozolomide with Other Chemotherapy in Patients with Recurrent Brain Metastases from Lung Cancer (The Oncologist)
by Ebert, BL et al.
v.8, no.1 The Oncologist (February 2003): 69-75
Discusses the use of temozolomide with other chemotherapeutic agents as a promising strategy for treating lung cancer patients with recurrent brain metastases. [1/03]

Temozolomide in Patients with Advanced NSCLC with and without Brain Metastases: a Phase II Study of the EORTC Lung Cancer Group (PubMed)
Abstract of a study reported in the June 2003 issue of the European Journal of Cancer that evaluated the activity of single-agent temozolomide in two groups of chemotherapy-naive NSCLC patients with (12 patients) and without (13 patients) brain metastases. Reports that no objective response was observed in either group and the study was closed after the first step of accrual with the conclusion of a lack of therapeutic activity of single-agent temozolomide in patients with stage IV NSCLC. [6/03]

Temozolomide Improves Response of Brain Metastases to Radiation Therapy (Doctor's Guide)
Summarizes the results of a Phase III study presented at the 2002 annual meeting of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) that found that adding temozolomide to whole brain radiation therapy significantly increases the response rate of patients with brain metastases. Of the 134 patients in the study, 82% had lung cancer as their primary site. [10/02]
